Declutter Your Mind

How to Get Out of the Mid-Winter Slump

by Hannah Munley on February, 2025

This time of the year is always so cold, damp, and dreary. Sometimes it can be difficult to pull yourself out of that “Mid-Winter Slump”. Moods just like, the snow begin to fall and motivation begins to deplete. Here at Lavender Maid, we want to not only help you clean your homes and spaces but to help you clean out your mind. Here are some ways to encourage you, motivate you, and help you declutter your mind so that you can be the absolute best you can be!

1. Take it one step at a time- It is especially difficult to find motivation during the days when you just want to stay warm and cozy in bed,  but remember you can start anywhere and anytime and exactly how you need. Just simply start by getting out of bed and go from there. Start by taking a deep breath and knowing that you can seize the day.

2. Make a to-do list and stick to it- Another way you can get up and get moving is by setting realistic, daily goals and completing them. For example, write any goals that need to get done: going to the store. Then add something to the list you’d like to get done: going to the gym. Finally, add a little treat for yourself at the very end of the list: treat yourself to some hot chocolate. It might also help you feel more productive if you write down the small tasks too: brush your teeth, feed the dogs, and put on shoes.

3. Journal or talk to a friend- One of the best ways to declutter your mind is to physically dump out all of your bad thoughts. One way you can do this is by journaling. Another highly beneficial way you can do this is by talking to a trusted friend or mentor. Journaling can help unload your thoughts while maintaining privacy and organization. On the other hand, verbally expressing feelings to someone opens the floor for dialogue and advice.

4. Spend time off the screens- It’s no secret that screen time and social media contribute heavily to the decline in mental health. Especially during this time of year, there are limited activities we could be doing, so we resort to binging TV and doom-scrolling. As an alternative to spending time with electronics, try to engage in a project, craft, or something creative. You could paint, try a puzzle, or write some poetry.

5. Go outside and enjoy the cool weather- Ironically, though the colder weather partly contributes to the negative mood shift, it doesn’t have to be a bad thing. Recently, the Hampton Roads were blanketed in snow! That’s a perfect time to take advantage of the wonderful winter weather. Try building a snowman, having a snowball fight, and come back in and sip hot chocolate to warm yourself up.

We know this time of year can be hard, but we’re here for you. If you or someone that you know is struggling this season, try these tips, declutter your mind, and know that the cold of winter is almost over.

At Lavender Maid, we aim to assist and truly care for our clients. Our mission is to reduce stress and create a relaxing environment for busy women with busy families and households.
