April Showers Bring May Flowers
Four Flowers and Plants to Help Brighten Up Your Home

by Hannah Munley on <date>
You know that saying, April showers bring May flowers. After a rainy and semi-cold April season, you deserve to see some beautiful flowers. This month, we’re going to be covering some wonderful flowers and plants that will help brighten your home and life.
Lavender- Starting off with our namesake, we have some delightful lavender flowers. Lavender and lavender oils are often used for aromatic scents, but a lavender plant can also be grown and used for so many things. Lavender oil helps soothe headaches and other bodily pain, and having a lavender plant can help reduce stress, headaches, and promote a more relaxing and carefree environment. In order to grow a lavender plant, it’s important to know that they need lots of sunlight or, as a substitute, LED lights. Also, make sure you water your lavender once every 10-14 days. Finally, be sure also to have the right fertilizer and a big enough pot. Though not the most common house plant, it creates quite a soothing environment.
Orchids- The next flower we’ll be covering is the majestic orchid. Orchids are not only aesthetically pleasing to look at, but they also have some amazing health benefits. Like lavender, orchids help reduce stress and are beneficial for quality sleep. In addition to being natural stress relievers, orchids serve as natural air purifiers, so they are perfect for detoxing the air in your home. To take care of your orchid, you will need to give it lots of light, but you should avoid direct sunlight to avoid burning the plant. When you water an orchid, you must make sure the soil is dry first to avoid rot. Finally, make sure you use a specific type of soil tailored perfectly for orchid plants. Though they can be high maintenance, orchids are both stunning and healthy plants that make caring for them worth it.
Spearmint- Next up, we have spearmint. There are so many great health benefits to maintaining a spearmint plant. Spearmint can assist with indigestion, abdominal pain, PCOS symptoms, headaches, and memory improvement. To activate the medicinal properties of spearmint, you can use the leaves for tea or put them in a salad, grind them up to make oils, or add them to your culinary dishes. Caring for your spearmint plant calls for direct sunlight, consistent watering that provides the correct amount of moisture for the plant, and a specific climate of 65-75 degrees Fahrenheit and 40-60% humidity. Though not a flower, Spearmint plants can curate a green and garden atmosphere inside your home.
Roses- Finally, we’re going to cover roses. Though you can’t necessarily grow a bush of roses inside your house, you can have a vase of fresh roses. Roses are such a classic flower. They symbolize beauty, romance, and perfection. Keeping a vase of fresh roses or flowers in your home can help enhance the aesthetics of any room, improve mental wellbeing, and even add to the air quality. Trading out roses for new ones or even different flowers can also make your home feel fresh and different, and having a bouquet of flowers is a low-commitment plant. Also, as a bonus, roses are nontoxic to pets! To make your roses last longer, make sure to use flower food, lukewarm water, cut the stems, and keep them in a cool place. Some also say that if roses are given with love, they will last longer. As a final bonus note, once your roses dry out, you can reuse the petals for artistic and vintage decor. Though a vase of flowers won’t last forever, having a bundle of fresh flowers contributes to a welcoming and warm atmosphere.
Having fresh and green plants in your home can really craft such a clean, appealing ambiance. Before you commit to having a plant, make sure you have a game plan, do your research, and can provide a proper residence for them; after all, they are living beings.
